  • Eyebrow Threading
  • Posted: 2008-11-04 20:27:13 By Lauren
  • Yes, I got this done today, opposed to waxing. What is it, you ask? Well, I can't exactly explain it, so I Wikipediaed it for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyebrow_threading

Now that you've read about it ... census: waxing, threading, plucking or leaving your brows al naturale? What's the census?

I actually liked it, and thought it a lot less painless than waxing. Only $8 at the place I went!

  • $8?! where was that? plucking/waxing/doing nothing all suck, so I'll vote for threading, even though I never tried!

  • Hiring?
  • Posted: 2008-11-03 08:26:10 By Lauren
  • Anyone know of places that are hiring in the Bay area? I'm looking to work part-time, full-time after December.

Don't worry - I will still be working with LocalShops, of course! :)

  • Don't go over 65 mph on the Interstate with a spare tire on your car. :/ Yes, some of you may be thrillseekers, but this really isn't the type of thrill you should seek.

    Trust me.

In other news - I graduate in a month! My goodness, how the time has gone by!
  • Graduation!
  • Posted: 2008-11-02 09:40:38 By Lauren
  • Hey all! After a constant battle that was about the equivalent of World War III with my undergrad adviser, I am set to graduate this fall! Yay :D

My actual commencement for graduation is Saturday, Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. I would like to do a brunch/lunch after the commencement. Anyone have any ideas of where to go? Probably somewhere in the South Tampa area would be best. Thanks :)

Does anyone know of any great shops (that are, of course, not the Walmarts & Targets of the world) that are selling Rays merchandise for affordable prices?

  • Halloween Fun!
  • Posted: 2008-10-22 09:04:32 By Lauren
  • Halloween is quickly approaching us! Goblins and ghouls; Princesses and fairies; Witches and wizards ... all these and more are the typical Halloween costumes!

I want to know what you're going as for Halloween and where you found your costume. Was it an independent Halloween store? Which one?

This is the first year I actually bought a costume - I'm going as a Sailor. (AHOY MATEY! Or is that Pirate-talk?) When I was a kid, my mom made my costumes for me - I was usually imitating a dalmatian from one of my favorite Disney flicks, "101 Dalmatians," or I was a fairy, thanks to all my past dance recital costumes coming in handy!

What about you? Did you make your costume this year? Or tell me what your silliest/funniest homemade Halloween outfit was! I know you all are creative, so fill me in! :)

And for those of you who enjoy the night haunt of clubs are bars, here's a list of a few venues throwing Halloween parties on October 31. Feel free to add others!

*Banana Joe's in Channelside is holding a Halloween costume bash! $10 at the door and it's 21 and up! check 'em out at www.mybananajoes.com

*The 'Jewel of Ybor' a.k.a Club Prana their yearly Halloween party. Drink specials, bottle specials -- can't go wrong here! www.clubprana.com

*MacDinton's in South Tampa's Halloween party includes cash prizes for best costume/best dressed!

  • OK, so you'll know I'm getting old, since I don't find Halloween fun any more! Well, maybe it's a little fun if I go to my friend's Halloween party but that means I'm going to need a costume.
Anybody have an idea on how to dress up like a Grumpy Old Lady? oh wait, that's me already!

Both owners offered great advice for upcoming entrepreneurial hopefuls looking to break into the independent business world.

If you're an indie biz owner and want to be featured in this section, send me an e-mail at localshopper01@gmail.com! Briefs will be posted each Monday and deadlines for interview answers will be the week prior. Look forward to hearing from you!

  • Ploy Thai

  • Lauren e-mailed us this entry earlier today:

TBOExtra said it best about this restaurant: the beautiful ambience of Ploy Thai will make you feel as if you walked into hidden treasure. The authentic music, fresh flowers and vibrant Thai fabrics let diners step into another world for an hour or two. Of course, the food is mouth-watering, with dishes that blend Asian spices, fresh meat and seafood, and seasoned veggies. If you’re a curry lover, Ploy Thai is the place for you – several of their dishes use the spice. So get together your family or grab a friend and visit this “little gem!”
